Starting on a 6 year old boy, named Mason, growing up with his single mother (Patricia Arquette) and older sister in Texas in 2002

Using the same cast over a 12 year period, we see this typical modern family age and develop throughout the ‘naughties’, and give a fly on the wall perspective of these guys trying to find their place in the world.
Husbands, ex husbands, good grades, moving, peer pressure, estranged fathers, spousal abuse, puberty, political revolutions, crucial & some awkward milestones…..

Watching the kids develop a better relationship with their estranged father, while in turn, he becomes a better father.

Mason & his first romantic moment being disturbed by an early returning housemate

All those haircuts. None of which beat the awkward clipper cut.

Mums meltdown over mason leaving for college….. Priceless

The sweet soundtrack!

No dates in time make it hard to picture what age we are experiencing.

Witnessing the fear of a family with an abusive alcoholic as a step father.

So. Much. Moving.

The mumbling. These kids need to open their mouths wider when they speak!

Incredibly real & incredibly long. Very raw context could of used a bit more of a positive influx to bring more of the enjoyment adolescence holds. Still, a very touching tale, with a truly admirable method of filming. See it once before you die.
